According to a post on their Japanese site, Nikon is canceling the Coolpix S4100 point & shoot that they announced back in February. The camera was slated to be shipped in May, but due to supply shortages imposed by the devastating earthquakes back in March, the camera manufacturer issued a press release this morning apologizing to consumers and retailers awaiting its release.

The ultra-slim camera was touted to have a fast f/3.2 max aperture (at least relative to most point and shoots), making it easier for shooters without surgeon-steady hands to capture spur of the moment action. Nikon Rumors states that this is the first product by Nikon to have its sale be affected by the quake, and that there's a possibility others will be announced soon. In late 2010, it was reported by the NY Times that the point & shoot market has declined "to $1.9 billion, from $2.4 billion," or 24 percent since 2008, due to a flourishing smartphone market with built in cameras.
