Apple’s iPad is the most quickly adopted electronic product, according to a Bernstein Research report. With three million units sold just three months after its release, Apple’s iPad surged past the one million iPhones sold in its first quarter, and the 350,000 DVD units sold in its first year in the market.
”By any account, the iPad is a runaway success of unprecedented proportion,” Bernstein analyst Colin McGranahan told CNBC. As a point of comparison, the DVD player took five years to achieve in pace of sales what the iPad managed in just its first quarter. The iPad is on its way to surpass gaming hardware and mobile phones to become the fourth biggest consumer electronics category with US$9 billion in sales, the Bernstein report estimated.
