HP starts voluntary recall of laptop batteries to prevent lap firesIf you purchased an HP or Compaq-brand laptop between August 2007 and March 2008, we advise you to stop, drop and roll.  Or, that’s what we would advise you to do if you were on fire - which is a real possibility thanks to the battery inside your laptop.

HP has kicked of a voluntary recall of over 70,000 laptop batteries from a variety of models.  The decision was made to do so after two machines overheated and caught fire thanks to the faulty batteries.

We imagine the laptop fires weren’t really that cool looking, so we found a better picture (above) to illustrate what a flaming laptop looks like.

If you’d like to find out more about the HP/Compaq laptop battery recall, you can do so on HP’s site. Shawn Farner is an IUP alum (BA in English) with a love for technology and community service. In the past, he's written posts for CrunchGear and SlashGear.
