The new price point of the Playstation 3 console to $299 isn't just great for us consumers, but also for publishers as well. The more consoles in people's homes will ultimately result in higher software sales for the company.

Electronic Arts, one of the largest third-party publishers in the world, has been waiting patiently for a price drop, and now has finally gotten its wish.  CEO John Riccitiello recently told the Associated Press the price drop by Sony was a "bold move done precisely at the right time," later adding his satisfaction for Sony not waiting until Thanksgiving or Christmas to drop the price of the console.  During a crowded Christmas holiday, Riccitiello said having a price drop during August "really stands out" among the rest of the electronics hardware.
