Sharp USA is running a pretty goofy entertaining ad on its latest Quattron quad pixel technology for its 2010 Aquos HDTVs. Most notably, the 30 second clip has renowned Japanese-American actor George Takei of Star Trek fame in a lab coat introducing the company's new TV color system. If you want to skip to the good part, fast forward to 0:22 for a laugh at Sharp's laudable effort at promoting its products.

In case you've not been following Quattron's development, Sharp has essentially introduced a yellow component to the standard red, green and blue (RGB) sub-pixels forming each one of the millions of pixels onscreen. This delivers a "discreet" yellow hue, while enhancing the overall reproducible color gamut. Quattron technology is current available only in Sharps LED-lit LCD TVs, though we're pretty sure it can be extended to regular LCD, plasma and even OLED panels.
